Tips for Biking Holidays In Morzine & Les-Gets

Some details on Morzine& Les Gets,,,

Morzine & Les Gets are two small towns which together form the basis for the enormous ski site known as Portes du Soleil (Gates of the Sun). Morzine is located in a valley right in the middle of the site, and Les Gets is South-West of Morzine. North-west of Morzine there is a very large area, reaching until Switzerland and the towns of Chattel and Morgines, which is covered with lifts,.

How to get there?

Morzine & Les Gets are situated about an hour and a half‘s drive from Geneva airport, which is reached by many airlines. To reach Morzine & Les-Gets from the airport, you can preorder a shuttle, the price of which usually includes transporting the bike as well. The accommodation provider will usually offer a package which includes the airport transfer.

Return airport transfer should cost 45-60 GBP

Lifts

Portes du Soleil includes no less than 24 lifts spread on the mountains, 8 departing from Morzine &Les-Gets, and the rest in the mountains North-East of Morzine. The Morzine & Les-Gets lifts are open for 3 months during the summer, while all the Portes du Soleil lifts are open for about two months (July & August). It is recommended you visit in the period when all the lifts are open for service. Your accommodation provider will usually offer you a package which includes the lift passes at the same price as is offered at the lifts ticketing office.

Mountain bike riding

After all, this is what we‘re here for.. The site includes 400 kilometers of single tracks, most of which are very fast downhills (DH), and is the largest mountain biking site of its kind in Europe. DH tracks are slightly wider than the "normal" singletracks. They are almost completely smooth without rocks or drops, with the occasional berms and dirt jumps.

The mountain bike tracks are mostly suitable for DH riders, but in fact any basic mountain biker can ride them, with the difference between them being the speed. A small part of the mountain biking tracks include technical obstacles such as roots and rocks. In other sites you can occasionally find jumping apparatuses, with the most famous one being the Kona Bike Park on the Mont Cherry above Les Gets and the North Shore in Chattel.

Climbing? A possibility, but let‘s enjoy the unique amount of mountain biking carrying lifts and do the climbing elsewhere.
